Part 3of 3 of the 72 hours that led up to the major eruption of Mt St Helen’s 45 years ago today and beyond.
Part 3 I tried to go to sleep.. it was impossible. It was about 5:30 AM when the doorbell rang and it was a friend of ours who was also a policeman. He was on his way home, after shift change, saw all the lights on and was concerned since he knew my husband and boys were out of town. I invited him in for a cup of coffee and we talked a bit I told him what I was feeling.. he finished his coffee and headed home to his family.. We walked out together and I saw the morning paper on the walkway and bent over to pick it up and looked up and the sky at sunrise was fire red… I took one look at the sky and burst into tears and said aloud “ People are going to die today “ He looked at me strangely but didn’t say anything. He left I went back into the house, turned out the lights peeked in on the girls and read a bit of the paper and then lay down my headache was getting worse if that’s possible. I also had some moderate stomach pains.. I fell asleep I guess probably about 7AM.. I guess I dozed off the TV was still playing, the girls were sleeping so I hoped a bit of a cat nap would help the headache. I woke suddenly and tried to sit up it was not possible my head was pounding.. I also noticed my L foot was numb…or felt asleep. I noticed it was 8:24 and it was cartoons on the TV.. I just lay there with my eyes closed and it seemed like almost immediately but it was actually 8 minutes later, the TV cartoons were stopped and they switched to the news room and said “ we interrupt the program in progress because we just rec’d word that there has been a major eruption at Mt St Helen’s we have a crew on the way to the area and will report as soon as we have any information, in the mean time reports are coming in from in some locations the street lights had come on due to the darkness from the ash falling. Our house faced due NE and that’s were the ash from the volcano drifted East and that is why it was visible. The ash was reported as far away as Oklahoma and Minnesota it took about 2 weeks and the ash from the eruption had circled the globe. They reported the eruption happened at 8:32 AM so I was 12 minutes off on the prediction I had made to Channel 2 KATU Portland the night before. I called my parents to let them know as they would not have the TV on at that time of day.. the girls were up but they were not overly interested in the volcano so they took their cereal back to their room.. I tried to call the station in Portland and could not get through. I did hear that the Boy Scouts made it out about 6:30 that morning with the gear they went in to retrieve. So they were okay. Not so much for Harry Truman and his home on Spirit Lake. The eruption covered Spirit Lake with a combination of ash and mud up to 20 feet or more deep. I felt vindicated the scientist said you can’t predict earthquakes and eruptions. I went to check on the baby pigeons and I was shocked and saddened both of them had died over night. It could have been coincidence but my pigeon authority Dr Kriethen said he believed that the pressure change was too much for them. The news on all the network channels carried the story of the major eruption. There were 57 persons who lost their lives, and homes were seen traveling down the Toutle River on rivers of mud. There were pyroclastic flows which consumed those in vehicles trying to out run it.. scores of trees were blown over countless animals were killed. David Johnston USGS geologist died in the blast. He was up on the ridge and was the first one to give the news and screamed into this microphone ” Vancouver Vancouver This is it “ he died from the blast that hit seconds later. Here in Salem we were using masks, to go outside and not breathe in the dust and ash. It was interesting I could go outside and stand with my back towards the volcanic cloud and every once in a while there were be a new or different ash plume arising. But what I found interesting I was able to ” feel ” those changes both in a intensity change of my headache and pressure I could feel in my ears.. and chest all of these symptoms seemed to proceed each new ash plume. So the week went on, lots of ash everywhere cars, roofs, grass, roads with ash blowing into the air from passing cars and trucks. Then on Thursday May 23rd the symptoms began again. The pain was almost as bad as before. This time I knew what it meant. Again I called KATU, and the Colombian News Paper from Vancouver and told Rick Seifert that it was going to go again. I even talked to a couple of my contacts at the volcano center I told everyone that the volcano would blow again on Friday and I called a new contact I was in contact with a man who worked in the State Capitol his name Harvey Latham. He was the head of the State of Oregon Office Of Emergency Services in the basement of the Capitol Building. Harvey wrote me a letter thanking me for thing a volunteer consultant for him with Mt St Helen’s and he said he said speaking for his office and himself personally ” You are more accurate in your reports to me than the geologist and volcanologist I have spoken to. The volcano erupted right on time again. From there on out I hit all the eruptions of St Helen’s be it dome building or explosive. There were two explosive eruptions that stand out after the May 18th Eruption. It was as if the volcano and I were in-sync If she so much as moved I knew it before it happened. One was on April 1o, 1981 I gave 10 days lead time for this one on March 31st.. the USGS said no eruption was predicted. 2 days later my contact called and said he had just heard that St Helen’s was in full eruption alert. I maintained it would be explosive based on my symptoms. It hit on April 10 as expected and began with a explosion that threw ash over 3 miles high and then it went into a dome building event with lava extrusions. The other was in 1982 in Sacramento and again I picked it up 10 days before it erupted in that one I contacted the News room and told them it would erupt in 10 days, the local TV Station KCRA came to my house at least 4 times to check in and see if I had any new timeline using a calendar to verify the date I made the prediction and the days up to the eruption. I said it will be an explosive eruption on March 19th 1982 and it was only 2 days before that date that USGS came out and said they were expecting a dome building eruption based on the data they were picking up.. I said you have part right, but it will be explosive. It was 2 days later a significant explosive eruption took place. There were explosive eruptions on a smaller scale between 1989-1991 Then again in explosive eruptions rocked the mountain on October 1 and 5 of 2004 Activity continued with periodic activity dome building eruptions into 2008 None were a surprise. I am including a link here that was a 49 minute program aired out of NBC KGW TV Portland last week. They also had original footage from KOMO ABC out of Seattle. This is worth watching if you did not get the see footage of the eruption or are too young to remember it.. https://youtu.be/cNY26BWPaLI?si=xJr-JKcHpAKwJTo0 The other one is a link that is on my blog but unless you know how to get to that page its not available. The WP group who have the blog changed their format and I lost direct links but they are still there, just click on search and type in Links etc.. what happens during an actual attack with St. Helen’s. This was narrated by Leonard Nimoy the host of the TV Series. You may recognize his voice from another source. Commander Spock from Star Trek, I always felt he was very supportive or what I was doing and appreciated the script. Could I do what he suggested? Maybe, I think so, but I pray that it never becomes necessary. “In Search Of” Dangerous Volcanoes #2″ With Leonard Nimoy https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=in+search+of+dangerous+volcanoes End…
NEW TIMELINE for a major quake 7.0 or greater . May None 2025 POSTED Sunday May 18, 2025 362 quakes in just 7 days at The Geysers. Posting at 7:10 PM PDT May 18, 2025
Cats have been pretty good but in the last couple of hours Merlin was getting antsy and crying running around and trying to get outside. Today he was crying in their sleeping room I have not heard him do that before. At this time they are all sleeping. The ants have been fairly quiet but their numbers are way down they have been hiding under their dish most of the time. No Spiders, No worms. No current timeline but I expect to have one soon based on the patterns I am watching.
